Honey Pomelo (Tambun) is a kind of Pummelo from Perak, Malaysia, where it has been planted for more than 500 years now. The Honey Pomelo (Tambun) is seedless, mild, succulent and always with a rich fragrance of honey. Juice of the pomelo is sweet and sometimes with a little sour taste. It tastes very similar to white grapefruit but without the bitterness. The skinned segments of pomelo can be broken apart and used in salads and desserts or made into preserves. Besides to be a tasty fruit, Honey Pomelo (Tambun) also functions a lot in the nutrition field. It contains several kinds of vitamins, sugar and more than ten sorts of other mineral components as magnesium, calcium, copper, aluminium, titanium and etc, especially richer in magnesium, calcium and copper than other fruit. It has a good source of vitamin C as well.
Chinese herbalist doctor thinks pomelo tastes sweet and sour and with cool property. It is good for digestion, can adjust metabolism, reduce blood pressure, clear throat, relieve a cough and contribute to a better appetite, clearing heat and transforming phlegm etc. According the the research by modern medicine and pharmacology, pomelo contains rich vitamin C and homothetic insulin factors, thus it has the efficacy to decrease blood sugar & blood fat, to loose weight and to serve as a natural beauty product. Frequent eating of pomelo will assist to treat hypertension, diabetes and angiosclerosis. During the Chinese New Year, this is a sought after fruit as some Chinese believe that taking the fruit is a sign of prosperity and good fortune. It is also used for the preparation of “Yee Sang”, a Chinese dish taken during the Chinese Lunar New Year.
